Norwich City payout to Nigel Worthington raises important questions

When Norwich City were under pressure from fans to get rid of Nigel Worthington less than 12 months ago, Norwich City reacted angrily to suggestions that they were only keeping Worthington on because it would cost too much to get rid of him.

At the time, Norwich declined to say how long his contract was (EDP report HERE from last November), but now it has been revealed that Wothington has received a £600,000 payout leaves me, as a season ticket holder, wondering just how long his contract was and when was it signed ? Read about the £600,000 payout HERE.

If Worthington was receiving £4,000 a week, this would mean that he still had three full years left on his contract when he was sacked just a couple of months ago.

This is no critisism of Nigel Worthington. If he is owed it, then he deserves it. However, if he did have that long left on his contract, then it is astonishing and in my view a sign of some poor decision making at the top of the club.

Norwich City deserved defeat - Shame on Ipswich fans who abused injured player

Let me say straight away, what a poor performance by Norwich, too much standing off the ball, sloppy passing, woeful levels of effort and generally, and complete opposite to Ipswich's endeavour, effort, pace and skill.

I'm sad to say it, but Ipswich were worthy winners.

However, shame, shame and more shame on the Ipswich fans who abused Luke Chadwick as he clattered in to the advertising hoarding in front of them doing himself a very nasty injury in the process. The appeared to be one Ipswich fans standing above the hoarding and shouting at Chadwick as he lay there in absolute agony whilst others laughed hysterically. Not nice, not nice at all.I have friends who are Ipswich fans, and I doubt they would be proud of fans like that.

Yes Sunderland, you were robbed !

Well done Norwich and sorry Sunderland.

There is nothing worse than a long journey home when you have been robbed of a result when you have dominated the match. I was immensely pleased with the 1-0 win from Norwich in what was a gritty defensive display.

Clearly today Norwich fans saw the value of having a £3m striker, give Earnshaw a chance and he will score.

Could Norwich fans bring their boots to tomorrow's game

After a good start to Peter Grant's career as Norwich manager, things have taken a sudden slump after the thrashing they received from Stoke at the weekend.

However, the injury crisis is chronic.

I've been to games before when a referee or a linesman (sorry, assitant referee) has been injured and they have put out an announcement for any qualified referees to make themselves known to a steward. Which made me think that it is getting to the stage at Carrow Road that they might well ask if anyone fancies a game !

I'm wondering whether to take my boots tomorrow, just in case.

Good luck to Peter Grant - New Norwich Manager

Good luck to new Norwich City manager Peter Grant, a former Norwich player known for his passion and determination.

I heard it suggested on BBC Look East that some Norwich fans are disappointed not to get a manager with Premiership experience. Personally, I think that is rubbish.

What Norwich need is a young manager looking to build a reputation for himself by doing well for Norwich. And anyway, how many premierhsip managers are willing to step "down" to the championship ?

Grant has played for the club, captained the club and knows the area. He has premiership experience at West Ham and whilst there, also had experience of getting a club promoted.Well done to the Norwich for making a sensible appointment.

Remember when Norwich qualified for the Champions League ?

With the Champions League (proper) starting today, it takes me back 13 years to when Norwich City came third in the Premier League, before football was spoilt by the money and foreign ownership, before the powers that be decided that only Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United could challenge for the title, and when 90% of players in the Premier League were British.

Of course, in those days only the "champions" qualified for the "Champions League", which meant Norwich went in to the UEFA Cup, where they beat Vitesse Arnhem and Bayern Munich (Norwich remain the only English team ever to have beaten Bayern Munich in the Olympic Stadium), eventually losing to Inter Milan, who went on to win the cup that year.

Oh how things change.

Just 18 months later Norwich were relegated, faced financial ruin and took years and a large amount of Delia Smith's money in order to get back on to an even keel.

Still, think of what the Champions League could have done for Norwich.

I don't really care who gets in to the Champions League next year, but please let it be someone other than the usual four !
